August 7th Update: 96 New Cases

There has been an alarming rise in the number of swine flu cases today, most of them with no travel history. Ninety Six confirmed cases have been reported today. The total number of confirmed cases now rises to 711 out of which 511 have been cured.

All of the 12 cases [13/M, 25/M, 21/M, 23/F, 21/F, 52/M, 2/M, 28/M, 57/M, 62/F, 10/F, 6/M] in Delhi are contact cases.

In Gurgaon, out of the six cases, one [33/M] has a foreign travel history from Singapore by Jet Airways flight 9W 0353 arriving New Delhi on 1st August. He self reported with symptoms on 5th August. The rest five [9/M, 13/F, 15/F, 18/M, 32/M] cases are contact cases.

In Pune, 36 out of the 37 cases are contact cases. The 37th case [6/M] has a travel history to Thailand in the last week.

In Mumbai one 12 year old female and her 14 year old sister travelled from USA by Flight BA 139 reaching Mumbai on 5th August and were quarantined at the identified health facility. Rest 14 cases are contact cases.

In Bangalore all 10 cases are contact cases. In Mangalore out of three cases two of them have travel history to Malaysia and the other case is a contact of them.

In Hyderabad, three of the four cases reported have foreign travel history. A 34 year old male travelled from USA by Emirates Flight EK 365 reaching Hyderabad on 2nd August. He reported with symptoms on 5th August. Another 23 year old male returned from Bangkok on 3rd August and he reported with symptoms on 5th August. The third case [23/M] returned from Malaysia via Bangkok by Thai Airlines flight TG 389 reaching Hyderabad on 3rd August. He reported with symptoms on 5th August. The fourth case [21/F] is a contact case.

Of the 4 cases in Chennai one [23/M] is a contact case. Two [47/M, 9/M] of the other three cases are from a family who travelled from USA by Singapore Airlines SQ 528 reaching Chennai on 4th August and was quarantined at the identified health facility. The fourth case [29/M] travelled from UK by Air India AI 130/31 reaching Chennai on 2nd August who developed symptoms and was admitted on 5th August.

Of the three cases in Kolkata, two cases [6/F, 27/M] do not have any travel history. The third case [22/M] is a Japanese National.
