Do You Really Need a Mask?

Panic has struck the entire country over the swine flu pandemic. It has now become a common sight to witness people walking around with masks covering their face. Looks like the fear has made people to stop thinking and blindly follow news floating around.

It has been clarified by the WHO, by the Indian Government and numerous doctors that wearing the mask is an absolutely ineffective method of preventing the virus. The swine flu virus is NOT air borne. Even it it was, it is debatable whether the mask would still have helped.

Most of the masks being sold cannot stop the virus from going through them and then there is the gap between the mask and your face through which the virus can penetrate. Get real, it is not possible to wear the mask so tightly that micro organisms cannot enter.

We repeat, the best way to protect yourself is by not touching your face, frequent washing your hands and staying an arms distance from sick people. The only way a mask may protect you is when someone sneezes right into your face. If that does happen, a mask will still not protect you

Finally, the N95 mask is required only by doctors and nurses. It is not meant for the common person on the street. You will only be spending you hard-earned money on something that does not do any good. Wearing a mask and roaming around only spreads more panic and rumour.

Sales of masks have shot through the roof. Businesses are taking advantage of the fear and are selling low-quality masks. We have observed a number of listings on ebay selling masks. The entire internet is filled with ads selling masks. If you really want to protect yourself, a regular hand-kerchief will be as useful. What it effectively does is prevent you from touching your nose and mouth. Along with the kerchief wear spectacles to prevent yourself from touching your eyes and you'll be fine.

PS: A better way to prevent swine flu - Increase your Immunity Naturally! Please spread the information, not the panic!
