VERY unspecific symptom. you need to clarify OTHER symptoms associated. Only SORE THROAT is difficult to call SWINE FLU.

If only SORE THROAT is the symptom its very UNLIKELY to be swine flu as you do not have other cardinal features like FEVER- COMMON COLD etc.

my nine years old son was having same condition before 3 days ago but doctor told me as he is having very mild throat infection and no chest infection nothing to worry. my son is highly allergetic and low immunity kid. he is having tendency to have high graded fever. now since last 24 hours he is fine and playing.

i have also started to give him and my other family memebers tulsi, ginger and gudd ka kadha. i dont know this is making any difference but have a faith and try to give him that. all the best i am sure he will be fine soon

As per the CURRENT LATEST GUIDELINES of GOVT.

• Patients with mild fever plus cough / sore throat with or without body ache, headache, diarrhoea and vomiting will be categorised as Category-A. They do not require Oseltamivir and should be treated for the symptoms mentioned above. The patients should be monitored for their progress and reassessed at 24 to 48 hours by the doctor.

• No testing of the patient for H1N1 is required.

• Patients should confine themselves at home and avoid mixing up with public and high risk members in the family.

With swine flu cases continuing to rise sharply, the Union Health Ministry on Saturday issued fresh guidelines specifying screening and testing module for patients to contain the disease in the country.

The guidelines were finalised at a high-level meeting chaired by the Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad last night in connection with the various actions taken by the government for containment and mitigation of H1N1 cases across the country.

During the meeting that lasted for more than five hours till 10 pm last night, the Health Minister also discussed various guidelines and protocols developed by the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Atlanta, USA and National Health Service, United Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by eminent experts from public and private hospitals/organisations besides senior officers of Health Ministry and Directorate General of Health Services.

As per guidelines, all individuals seeking consultation for flu-like symptoms would be screened at healthcare facilities -- both government and private -- or examined by a doctor and will be categorised broadly under three categories A, B and C depending on their health status, as per an official release here.
They will be given treatment and isolated as specified in the guidelines.

Patients with mild fever plus cough/sore throat with or without body ache, headache, diarrhoea and vomiting will be categorised as Category-A. They do not require Oseltamivir and should be treated for the symptoms mentioned above.

The patients should be monitored for their progress and reassessed after 24 to 48 hours by the doctor. For this category, no testing of the patient for H1N1 is required. Patients should confine themselves at home and avoid mixing up with public and high risk members in the family.

Category B has two subcategories. Category BI is for those patients, who have high grade fever and severe sore throat in addition to all the signs and symptoms mentioned under Category-A. They may require home isolation and Oseltamivir.

Category BII is for those, who have in addition to all the signs and symptoms mentioned under Category-A are having one or more of the following high risk conditions like children less than 5-years-old, pregnant women, persons aged 65 years or older, patients with lung diseases, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, diabetes, neurological disorders, cancer and HIV/AIDS, patients on long term cortisone therapy. They shall be treated with Oseltamivir but no tests for H1N1 is required for Category-B (I) and (II).

However, all patients of Category-B (I) and (II) should confine themselves at home and avoid mixing with public and high risk members in the family.

In category C, those patients fall, who in addition to the above signs and symptoms of Category-A and B, have one or more of the following problems like breathlessness, chest pain, drowsiness, fall in blood pressure, sputum mixed with blood, bluish discolouration of nails, irritability among small children, refusal to accept food, worsening of underlying chronic conditions.
All these patients mentioned above in Category-C require testing, immediate hospitalization and treatment.

When so many people have died of swine flu in Bangalore, why can't Government allow Private labs to test for swine flu? In Delhi one of the Private Labs (which is identified by the Government as the testing center for swine flu)will send the technicians to the patients' home to draw blood and charge Rs 4,500/ per test. This avoids the hassles of standing for hours in the testing centers when someone has flu like symptoms.
Please... let the Bangaloreans have this facility. Can someone in authority do something about this?

Consult your family physician first. It could be normal flu or could be swine flu. Doctor knows better than us. So consult your doctor and follow the advice.

My four year son is having fever since 7days. We recently travelled to mumbai where he started getting high fever. After coming to B'lore he developed very bad cold due to change in weather. High fever (104) goes after taking fever medicine but comes again after few hours. Consulted pediatrician suggested to get done Typhoid, malaria test which found –Ve but bacterial infection seen for which doctor started new antibiotics (Augmentin Pro syrup) but still he is not showing any improvement and still getting high fever. I am really not sure blood tests done are enough/correct and he is getting right medicine/treatment. Doctor has still not advised for H1N1 test which is my concern.
Kindly suggest me what I should do in this case

I have been having severe throat infection and slight fever(99.9) from yesterday, body aches and cough is also present. Doctor prescribed antibiotics and paracetomol, just took it 2 hours before, fever body ache gone and throat pain is getting better. Should I still get tested for H1N1, Docor took blood tests and asked me to wait till tomorrow evening. I am worried and want to know if early testing will be good. Or does this not sound like swine flu. I do not have vomiting or stomach upset.
